Maternity:

Antenatal care can be provided by your Doctor in conjunction with a Malton Hospital Midwife.
Towards the end of pregnancy, an Obstetric Consultant may also see you. Most deliveries will be
at Malton Hospital Maternity Unit. Postnatal examinations for you and your baby take place at
Derwent Practice six weeks after delivery.

Family Planning:

A full Family Planning Service is offered at the Surgery.

Chiropody:

Qualified Chiropodists work within the Practice by appointment only, made after referral by your Doctor.

District Nurses:

Our Team of District Nurses are based at the Practice and provide nursing care to patients
confined to their homes or who are recently out of hospital.

Health Visitors:

The Health Visitors are also based at the Practice and may see you after referral from your Doctor.
They carry out our children development checks and work with families.

Mental Health:

There is a Mental Health Worker, Clinical Psychologist and a Psychosexual Therapist all based at
the Practice. Your Doctor may ask them to see you.

Screening:

Cervical smears are recommended for all women. The Practice operates a “call and re-call system” to remind you when your next smear is due. You will be informed of the result by letter. Paediatric and Elderly Persons Health Checks are routinely performed by the Practice.Regular check ups are performed on patients with chronic illnesses. Mammography and Retinal Screening also provide a recall service periodically at the Practice.

Many operations are performed by the Doctors at Malton Hospital.

Carers:

If someone who cannot manage at home without help relies on you, the Practice can liaise with
local agencies who can offer you support.

Medical Examination:

May be arranged for HGV, insurances, etc but these are not covered by the NHS and you will be
charged a fee. Current fees are displayed in the Practice.

Medical Certificates:

Most certificates, forms and letters are not covered by the NHS and a fee will be charged for
completing these. If you are unable to attend work, you should fill in a self-certification form
available from your employer. If you are ill for more than one week, your Doctor can provide
a standard sickness certificate, free of charge, to give to your employer.

The Practice Nurses hold regular Clinics in the following:

• Coronary Heart Disease
• Asthma
• Hypertension
• Diabetes
• Stroke

Vaccinations:

Influenza vaccination is offered in October each year and is particularly recommended for elderly
people and anyone with diabetes, chest or heart problems.

Travel vaccinations are available by contacting the Practice Nurse preferably eight weeks before
departure. There is a charge for some vaccinations - please ask for details.

Certain patients may be recommended to receive Hepatitis B immunisations because of their
profession etc.

Pneumovax are offered to people aged 75+ and anyone with diabetes, chest/heart problems and
various other problems.
