The
Practice: ..........................................
Derwent Practice has patients
living within an eight mile radius of the centre of Malton.
The modern, purpose-built building is situated next to the Malton bus
and railway stations
and has it's own car park. It has facilities for disabled people and a
changing area for babies.
The rear of the building has been extended to provide both treatment and
consulting rooms
for the Practice Nurses, with a separate entrance and waiting area.
The Practice Nurses are all
experienced Registered General Nurses and have family planning
and other specialist qualifications.
There is a Phlebotomist available Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and
11:00 am to take
blood samples as requested by the Doctors. An appointment can be made
with the Nurse
by telephoning (01653) 691918.
The Practice is recognised
for training, giving experience to fully qualified Doctors specialising
in General Practice. It also has links with the Hull/York Medical School
and with Imperial
College, London. Medical students towards the end of their training, sometimes
accompany
the Doctors during surgery and visits. Patients are asked if they are
happy with this
arrangement are are able to refuse to have a student present if they so
choose.This is one
of the few opportunities for medical students to see patients in a community
setting.
We hope you will co-operate with us in giving students this valuable experience
but you do
have the right to refuse to have a medical student present during your
consultation.
The Practice also participates
in the advanced training of Doctors who wish to become General
Practitioners. Our GP Registrars are fully qualified Doctors who have
worked for two years or
more in Hospital posts. They work with us for a period of time to share
all aspects of medical
care. Video cameras are sometimes used for training but you will be informed
in advance
if your consultation is to be recorded and you have the right to refuse.
Postgraduate Medical Education
As a teaching Practice, it
may be necessary for your own doctor to attend medical education
courses, thus reducing their surgeries. This is necessary to maintain
high standards of medical care and education.
